Photographing your moments in San Francisco, California

Everyone wants to be a florist after talking with Roshanda Shanel of Of the Desert Flor. Her passion for flowers was cultivated early on and only grew as the universe pushed other opportunities out of her way to lead her down the path of floral design.

Now, Roshanda is committed to cultivating floral knowledge both with budding florists in her Flor Therapy workshops and in educating couples on the hard work and cost that goes into creating flower masterpieces.

We sat down with Roshanda on the Vegas is for Lovers podcast to chat about the need to knows in creating a flower budget for your Las Vegas wedding.

Start with a vision

Roshanda suggests starting with a vision and a plan. “Make sure to clean up your pinterest board before presenting to a vendor,” she suggests. “Be clear with a theme and color palette and research the location of the wedding and if there are any stipulations with design or set up timeframe”.

The next step

The next step in creating a flower budget for your Las Vegas wedding is how much to estimate. 15 – 20% of your overall budget is a standard guide to budgeting for floral, but it’s important to take into account the size of your wedding party and guest count. Bridal party floral can add up quickly, especially if you plan to include immediate family. Larger guest counts will also need more decor for the tables but Roshanda suggests using three to four options for centerpieces which can be both cost effective and add interest to the space.

“Having a variety of centerpieces in different sizes can create dimension and depth in the room,” Roshanda recommends.

With a plan and a price range in mind, Roshanda suggests setting up calls with potential florists who match the aesthetic you’re looking for. “A 15-minute conversation is so much more helpful to make sure the florist is a good match over just wanting a quote.” She adds that it’s important for the vendor/couple relationship to find a match that wants to work with you and not one solely based on price.

Even with countless creations under her belt, Roshanda continues to find joy in each project she takes on and feels a sense of joy and pride at the final result.
